Happy New Year & Happy 9 Month Bday G!

Happy 2010 Everyone! Hope everyone had a great New Years Eve/Day. We did- very mellow this year, with family, friends, good food, and wine. We even made it up until midnight! This was the latest I've stayed up since Grady's been born. So proud of myself. :)

Here's some pics of G on his nine month birthday- such a big boy!
Birthday monkey!!! He liked it this month!
He is now pulling himself up on everything, ALL THE TIME. He never rests (and you think I'm joking....the boy collectively naps about 30-40 minutes a day- more on this in a sec). He is keeping us on our toes! Here he is trapped under the table. He was screaming for help and we we were of course laughing and taking pictures, being the good parents that we are.

He thinks he is so big now that sometimes he won't eat his "baby" food. He wants big boy food that he can feed himself. So we've been getting more creative and cooking him things that we can chop into little pieces. Here he is enjoying his first teething biscuit. He loved it, but wow what a mess those things make!
His maturity is really shining through in his dedication to developing his piano skills. He's our little Beethoven. :)
The last thing that we've been up to is "sleep training." Grady had gotten into the bad habit of waking up and wanting to be nursed back to sleep about 3 or 4 times a night. I kept making excuses for him- but once he got better from being sick, we decided NO MORE- mama and dad need to sleep! Soooo, we let him "cry it out" maybe 5 nights ago. He cried and screamed for an hour and half (his bedtime is 7) on and off before finally passing out and then slept until after 5am. SO difficult to listen to, but worth it now! Every night since he has slept at least 9-10 hours straight before waking, and then usually going back to sleep for another hour or two. And it really only took one night. The next night he cried less than 5 minutes when we put him down. Every night since 2 or less minutes. Tonight he barely even bothered. I'm so proud of my little night sleeper- and proud of us too. The only problem still is naps. He HATES them. I feel like he's gotten almost worse with naps since sleeping through the night. He literally take two 20-30 min. naps a day-on a good day. I've tried letting his cry himself to sleep at naptime, but it's not working so well. If anyone has any suggestions for me, please share!

Happy 2010 everyone- hope it's a great year for you all! A year of babies sleeping through the night!!!

i'm proud of all of you too. the night crying is the worse for mama and baby. bobby would have to hold me back from getting them out of their crib. but like you said it's worth it once they start sleeping through the night. andrew would cry and then take his clothes off and throw them out of his crib. even his diaper. that drove me crazy.

they were all good nappers so i didn't have that worry. but total up the hours he sleeps during the day and at night. web md says at his age ideally it should be 14-15 hours a day, but more like 12. does that sound like what he is getting?

Thanks Betty! At least Grady's not a stripper like Andrew! That makes me laugh. I think they're personalities are going to be similar though- Grady's already showing his little daredevil side.

I think that most days he sleeps 12-13 hours total. I think he's "healthy," just don't know if I was a stay at home mom if I'd be sane! :) He has his 9 month check-up tomorrow, so I'll see what she thinks too. I have a feeling she's going to say that it's probably just his personality! My mom tells me that I was a horrible napper too! I actually have never been able to take naps- until bring pregnant & now having a baby!

Olivia is a bad napper, too! (and I guess that I was as well when I was little :). We're lucky to get 40 minutes out of her at a time. But I did start spreading the time between naps out a bit more, and that seems to help her sleep a bit longer sometimes - I'm thinking that she wasn't tired enough before to sleep for a long time?

That's great that he's sleeping through the night!
